Salih Can Ayünal
Independent insurance broker licensed under § 34d GewO. Advice across the full range, with a focus on retirement planning, private health insurance and company pensions.
My background
I am 26, born and raised in Frankfurt am Main, and married. I came into the finance industry in 2021 through a year-long placement at a bank, in retail client advisory. One thing struck me immediately: how many people sign contracts they cannot afterwards explain. Not out of carelessness — but because nobody ever took the time to make it understandable.
After that I worked for several insurers and got to know the industry from the inside. Including the side clients never see: which products get pushed, and why.
In 2023 I set up on my own as an independent insurance broker. The reason was simple: anyone employed by a single company can only offer that company's products. I wanted to be able to compare the whole market. Today I advise over 500 clients — licensed under § 34d GewO and additionally qualified as a Finanzanlagenfachmann (IHK), the German certification for investment advice. Not in order to broker investments, but because unit-linked pension products cannot be advised on responsibly without understanding the investment side.
What bothers me about my industry is the confusion of advice with sales. A good conversation sometimes ends with me advising against. That costs me commission — and gains me someone who comes back and recommends me. That trade works for me.
I work from Frankfurt across Germany. Most conversations happen by video anyway — which saves you the journey and me the drive.
How I work
Independent
As a broker I am legally committed to your interest, not an insurer's. I have access to the whole market and no reason to favour a particular product.
Broad — with clear focus
I advise across the full range: protecting income, covering assets, building provision. My focus sits where there is most to gain — retirement planning, private health insurance and company pensions. That is also where I know the details that make the difference.
Understandable
If you could not explain afterwards what you signed, I did not do my job. I explain the terminology instead of using it to look competent.
Willing to say no
If your existing setup is good, I say so. If a product does not suit you, likewise — even where I would earn from it. Advice does not work any other way in the long run.

Advice in English
Consultations, documents and correspondence can run entirely in English. Policies themselves are issued in German by the insurers — I go through the clauses that matter with you, so you are not signing something you cannot read.
